ADHD Meds.. Day 1

ADHD Meds.. Day 1

Have you ever looked at something new and felt a knot in your stomach? That mix of excitement and dread can be overwhelming, especially if it might end up a let-down or change your life in a spectacular way. In this episode, I’m taking a deep breath and stepping into uncharted territory with a new experiment that could be either epic or silly.

This conversation is all about facing fear and embracing curiosity. Will the experience open hidden doors in my dyslexic mind or be no more effective than a glass of water? Have a read and let's see if it can help us get a little braver about trying new things.

Taking the Plunge

It’s easy to avoid anything that feels weird or complicated, especially when your brain already runs a hundred miles an hour. I finally decided it was time to confront the question: are these supplements, tools, or methods worth the buzz?

Was I scared? Absolutely. Curiosity won out though. In the episode, I share how one simple shift in perspective can gently nudge you towards fresh possibilities.

“Some days, I do wonder if this is the moment it all changes, or if I’m just caught up in the hype.”

Reality vs. Placebo

You might ask why I’m not sure if this is the real thing or just a placebo. It’s hardly surprising. When you're wired differently, you tend to question if something that claims to help is just another promise doomed to fail.

One part of me wants to believe in magical pills that supercharge my brain. Another part of me remembers every time I’ve been disappointed by big promises. This mental tug-of-war is at the core of the episode, dealing with hope, cynicism, and the desire to be proven wrong in the best possible way.

A Taste of ‘Limitless’

I imagine what it'd be like if one of these discoveries bridged that gap between a chaotic mind and perfect focus. It can feel like the movie Limitless, where your brain flips a switch and everything suddenly makes sense.

Is it realistic to expect such a shift? Probably not. Yet part of me loves daydreaming about the possibility. In this episode, I weigh the pros and cons of hoping for that cognitive leap. It can be fun to let ourselves be a bit dramatic, as long as we stay grounded.

Facing Fear in Practical Ways

Dyslexia and ADHD can amplify natural fears. Trying something new feels like adding chaos to an already busy mind. Still, I’ve learned a few quick tricks that help me calm the swirling thoughts and make solid decisions:

  • Get curious – Ask yourself if your reaction is based on an actual threat or a story in your head.
  • Set a small test – If you can try something for just a few days, it’s less overwhelming.
  • Track progress – Keep a few notes on how you feel. Notice if your energy or mental clarity shifts.
  • Forgive yourself – If it doesn’t work, it’s all good. At least you learned something new.

These simple steps keep me from getting stuck in a corner of indecision. I talk through how I apply them in the episode. It’s easier to take a risk if you already have a safety net drawn up in your mind.

Keeping an Open Mind

We like to joke about being gullible, but I think we’re just hopeful. The dyslexic journey often involves chasing breakthroughs that can make a difference. I’m always open to any spark that might help. It doesn't mean I'm ignoring reality though. In the episode, I explore how we can strike a balance between excitement and healthy scepticism.

I also talk about the times I’ve backed away too soon. That nagging feeling of, “What if I’d just waited one more day?” can haunt you, which is why I’m more willing to give new ideas some breathing room. When the stakes are low, a bit of patience never hurts.

Takeaways

  • Fear comes naturally when you’re stepping out of your comfort zone.
  • Placebo can sometimes be an ally – belief can lift your mindset, which is never a bad thing.
  • Our brains often expect wild results, but small daily wins are what usually make the real difference.
  • Curiosity and healthy scepticism can happily coexist.
  • A safety net of short tests and a tracking habit makes new experiments less scary.
