And That Was 2020...

Have you ever felt that rush of relief when December rolls around? Everything seems to slow down, yet there’s this underlying pressure to figure out your next step. In this episode of Truth About Dyslexia, I’m wrapping up the year, sharing how I feel post-break, and looking ahead to what’s coming in 2021.
This final episode offers a moment to pause, take stock, and think about the bigger picture. I talk about how dyslexia influences our perspectives on work, rest, and relationships, and why it’s important to embrace the journey rather than push through unhelpful expectations. The lessons I’ve learned this year will shape how I approach the next stage of the podcast. I also share gratitude for everyone who has tuned in. It’s been a wild ride, and we’re just getting started.
The Year in Review
It wasn’t always smooth sailing. There were times when I wondered if I should keep creating new episodes or take a breather. Life can feel full on, especially when you have a dyslexic mind that’s always exploring new ideas.
At the start of this year, I had all sorts of plans for where I wanted Truth About Dyslexia to go. Then, life threw its usual curveballs. Projects took new shapes, my schedule changed, and my energy got pulled in unexpected directions. That’s when I realised I needed to adapt. A year hardly ever goes the way we plan, but sometimes that makes it even more meaningful.
Taking a Break: Why It’s Important
Stepping back was the best choice I could have made. When you have a curious mind, it’s tempting to keep going long after your body and brain ask you to rest. I took time off to recharge, be present with my close friends, and reflect on how I wanted the show to evolve.
In the episode, I mention how fast our attention can shift, especially if you have dyslexia or ADHD. One moment we’re inspired, then suddenly we’re bored or distracted. That’s why rest is essential. It stops the spiral and lets fresh ideas resurface. As I always say:
“When you’re dyslexic, stillness can feel strange, but it’s in that space you find your hidden gems.”
Looking Ahead to 2021
The new year holds a lot of promise. It’s a fresh slate for me to explore new topics and dig deeper into the heart of dyslexia. I want to spread more understanding about how our minds work, and I plan to invite guests who can shed light on different aspects of neurodiversity.
I’m also keen to bring a bit more fun into the podcast. Sharing laughs about our messy desks, forgotten appointments, or half-finished tasks can help us feel less alone. We don’t always have to take ourselves too seriously.
Looking ahead, there will be episodes on:
- How dyslexia and ADHD overlap
- Building healthier habits (without feeling overwhelmed)
- Common myths about dyslexia that deserve a proper debunking
- Real-life listener stories, so you know you’re not the only one adapting every day
The Final Thank You
Before I dive into the new year, I want to share some honest gratitude. If you’ve been listening to me ramble on each week, thank you. If you’re a brand-new listener, welcome to the community. It always amazes me how connected we can feel, even when we’re scattered across the globe.
I started this podcast with the aim of demystifying dyslexia. I’ve learned that real change happens when we keep sharing stories and stay open. People who tune in do so because they want insights. They’re looking for a friendly voice or a little boost. I hope this space feels like home for you.
- I recharged by stepping away and learned the value of rest.
- Reflecting on the year helped me spot what worked and what didn’t.
- Looking ahead to 2021, I’m ready to focus on more in-depth topics.
- Community matters, and your listens mean the world to me.
