Fresh Eyes & Anixety

Fresh Eyes & Anixety

Ever find yourself wondering if each new year can really top the last? Sometimes you think nothing could surprise you, then life tosses you an unexpected curveball. In this episode, I talk about how this year’s already pushing the limits of fun, challenge and discovery.

I share some of the twists I’ve run into. I also wander a bit off-topic at just the right moments. If you want to hear about my experiences juggling dyslexia-friendly strategies, embracing random breakthroughs and handling tough curveballs, this one’s for you.

A Surprising Start

There’s always a first-day energy that comes with any new year. I can’t help but get a rush of excitement and anticipation. Then all of a sudden, real life steps in with its own brilliant and often messy script.

I’ve had moments where I thought, “This is so off-track, how did I get here?” Yet those moments spark ideas I’d never have seen if things ran perfectly. Unexpected changes can be a goldmine of self-discovery.

As I’ve said in the podcast:

“Already I’m running into challenges, making discoveries and more. I go a bit off-topic in this one, in a good way!”

When things seem to go astray, I see them as signposts that point me toward growth. One of the biggest lessons is to handle these twists with a sense of fun and curiosity.

Embracing the Chaos

Stepping into something new can feel chaotic. Some days, I’ve felt like I’m juggling more than I can hold. In dealing with my dyslexia, I’ve realised it’s all about giving myself permission to be human.

Here are a few things I do to stay sane:

  • Write down ideas while you still have them. It helps calm scattered thoughts.
  • Take planned mini-breaks when everything feels overwhelming.
  • Remind yourself that it’s all part of the process. Low points can lead to new insights.

I’ve also noticed that when I stop beating myself up over small fails, I create room for big wins.

Off-Topic, On Point

It’s normal to drift off-topic sometimes, especially when you have a creative or fast-moving mind. You might start with one thought, then it branches into five more. Before you know it, you’re on a wild journey of tangents.

In the episode, I share a few personal tangents I explored. These offshoots gave me unexpected solutions to challenges I hadn’t figured out. They also made me laugh at myself, which is always a plus.

Going off-topic can be the perfect reminder that strict planning isn’t everything. Some of life’s best breakthroughs happen when you allow a bit of freedom in your thinking.

Moments of Realisation

I’m a big believer in simple “aha” moments. They can happen when you’re brushing your teeth or taking a walk. It doesn’t always have to be a formal planning session or a big event.

This year’s been a chain of little realisations that build into something big. I’ve taken the time to:

  • Recognise my triggers for stress or procrastination.
  • Pause and reflect on successes that usually go unnoticed.
  • Talk about what’s on my mind, even if it sounds messy at first.

It’s amazing how talking through ideas with friends or online communities uncovers insights. Sometimes, a single word of encouragement is all it takes to switch your mindset.

Key Takeaways

  • Mixed emotions can be a sign you’re doing something meaningful.
  • Going off-topic can lead to hidden gems of knowledge.
  • You don’t need everything in perfect order to start moving forward.
  • Small reflections can spark major changes.

That covers the best bits from this episode. I hope it helps you see that adventure often comes disguised as chaos. If you’d like to hear more, press play on the episode player at the top of this page and join me for the full conversation.
