Looking Backwards Is Important
Share
I’ve just celebrated another birthday and it has me thinking about what the next year holds. If you’ve ever had that feeling of excitement mixed with a dash of nerves, you’ll know exactly how I feel. In this episode, I chat about being 34, the goals I’m setting, and why they matter so much.
I reflect on the last year’s wins and stumbles. Then I dive into the big question: Can I actually achieve the massive goal I’ve set for myself this year? I talk about the power of aiming high, staying flexible, and giving myself room to make mistakes along the way. You’ll hear me touch on self-awareness, daily discipline, and the hurdles that come with a busy, creative mind.
Celebration and Reflection
There’s something special about birthdays. They force me to slow down and look back. I see progress in areas I once struggled with. I also notice ambitions I shelved to deal with life’s busyness.
During this reflection, I realised how vital it is to measure growth in small increments. One year might sound huge, but day by day is a better way to keep track. That’s not always easy. With dyslexia or an ADHD mind, it can feel like your focus jumps around a lot, but every small step still counts.
The Big Goal
I’m pushing myself this year with a massive stretch goal. It’s a target that excites me but also keeps me awake at night. That mix of energy and fear tells me I’ve picked the right challenge.
Maybe you’re facing a big challenge too. Is it a new job? A creative project? A health kick? Whatever it is, don’t be afraid to think big. Setting a sky-high target can be a powerful motivator. Just remember to check in with yourself so you don’t burn out along the way.
“I’m done with aiming small. This year is about going bigger than ever. Even if I have no idea how I’ll pull it off.”
Strategies and Mindset
Aiming high is more than picking a number or deadline. It’s about creating habits and focusing on consistency. In the episode, I share a few strategies that keep me moving forward.
- Micro Goals: I break everything into bite-sized tasks. It feels less overwhelming.
- Accountability Buddies: I talk weekly with a friend who checks in on my progress.
- Visual Reminders: Notes, sketches, or mind maps help keep my brain on track.
- Celebrate Success: I reward myself for each small milestone, which helps me stay motivated.
These are designed to combat the ADHD and dyslexic moments when I find my thoughts spinning. By adopting small practices, I keep myself committed and enthusiastic over the long haul.
Learning From Last Year
Looking back at 33, I saw both accomplishments and slip-ups. It felt like a roller coaster at times. I’d set a goal, then get distracted by another idea. I’d do a big push, then forget why I started in the first place. So this year, I’m more prepared. I know I must pace myself and show kindness when things don’t work out exactly as I hoped.
There’s also something freeing about trusting the process. You never know if what you do today will lead to a breakthrough tomorrow. As long as you’re consistent, you’ll see change over time. I talk about this a lot in the episode, especially how trusting the path can lower stress and keep you steady.
Looking Ahead
So, is it possible to hit this outsized goal by my 35th birthday? I believe it’s worth a serious try. If I’ve learnt anything from previous efforts, it’s that self-belief mixed with a step-by-step plan can work wonders.
Here’s a quick recap of what I share in the podcast:
