Stress Vs Boredom, Alcohol, Dyslexic Confidence & A New Type Of Interview

Stress Vs Boredom, Alcohol, Dyslexic Confidence & A New Type Of Interview

Welcome to this week’s update on The Truth About Dyslexia podcast. Today I’m sharing what’s been going on behind the scenes, from balancing stress and boredom to my honest experience with alcohol. You’ll also hear about our new Dyslexic Confidence programme and a fresh interview format I’m excited to launch.

Sometimes life as a dyslexic feels like standing on a seesaw. We’re either restless or overwhelmed. In this episode, I explore that ups-and-downs feel, how I deal with tricky habits, and how I’m helping others build confidence in their dyslexic identity. Stick around for a few quick takes that could inspire your next move.

Stress vs Boredom

Have you ever found yourself bouncing between feeling stuck and feeling overloaded? That balance can be extra tough for people with dyslexia. We either crave more challenges or we’re drowning in them. It can feel like there’s no middle ground.

I shared a story about a time when work was going well, but my mind was still screaming for more. That’s when I realised boredom can be as stressful as a huge to-do list. I ended up taking on heaps of new ideas, but soon I was swamped and barely had time to breathe. It’s that classic dyslexic pattern: we get bored, we fill up our plates, then we struggle.

If you’re in the same boat, think about this:

  • Check in with yourself: Do you feel bored or overwhelmed?
  • Set small, measurable tasks, even if they’re just five-minute goals.
  • Give yourself breaks or micro-rewards for getting stuff done.

The key is to keep a gentle eye on what your brain is asking for. Sometimes it craves novelty, other times it needs calm. With a bit of awareness you can sail between stress and boredom without feeling like you’re sinking.

My Relationship With Alcohol

This one’s personal. I’ve struggled with alcohol over the years. It can be a coping mechanism that creeps up on you, especially if you’re juggling dyslexia, work, and everyday pressures.

“I want to be open about my challenges with alcohol, because honesty is the best way to grow.”

That’s a snippet from the podcast. Sharing this battle has freed me from carrying it alone. I’ve realised that when I’m bored, I’m more likely to pour a drink. When I’m stressed, I can’t wait for that chance to unwind. So it’s a double bind when you have the stress-boredom seesaw in the mix.

I won’t pretend to have the perfect solution, but I’m making changes:

  • Aiming to be mindful rather than mindless.
  • Reaching out for accountability when I know I’m on shaky ground.
  • Exploring healthier ways to decompress, like walking or a quick workout.

If alcohol (or any other habit) has become a crutch for you, remember there’s support out there. You’re not alone.

Building Dyslexic Confidence

I’m thrilled to share the launch of our new programme, The Confident Dyslexic. I created it after hearing so many dyslexics talk about feeling insecure, stuck, and exhausted by self-doubt.

By stepping into your natural dyslexic talents, you can grow a deeper trust in yourself. We’re focusing on practical strategies, like:

  1. Reframing how you see your dyslexia (it’s not a curse).
  2. Leaning into daily habits that build consistency.
  3. Connecting with a supportive community that respects your gifts.

If you’re curious about how it all works, sign up for our next Webinar Video Series on Building Confidence as a Dyslexic. It’s an in-depth look at the programme, plus some free training on how to find that self-belief you’ve been craving. You’ll also see stories from others who’ve been through the journey and come out energised.

We’ve seen results where students stop hiding their dyslexia and start seeing real improvements in communication, time management, and even their personal relationships. It’s a community of people growing and learning together.

12 Minute Interviews

Something new is brewing. I’m calling it “12 Minute Interviews.” These are quick, focused chats with listeners who have a dyslexic story to share. There’s something powerful about hearing real experiences from everyday folks. They’re not necessarily authors or experts, but they’ve got insight that might spark a lightbulb moment for you.

What can you expect?

  • A friendly conversation that dives right into the heart of dyslexia.
  • Smart tips you can try without needing fancy tools.
  • Stories about overcoming day-to-day challenges that might mirror your own path.

Keep an eye out for these mini-episodes. They’re a chance to connect with the wider community and remind ourselves that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. If you’d love to share your own insights, let me know. You might be our next guest.
