#updatecast - Ending Out The Year, To List Bingo & Sticking To A Routine

Have you ever felt your brain buzzing with so many thoughts that it’s hard to focus on just one? That was exactly how I felt recording this episode. I love my dyslexic mind, but sometimes I need to do an Update cast where I share the random but important things I’m working on. It's an honest look behind the scenes that can help you navigate your own journey too.

In this episode, I chat about wrapping up our latest cohort of The Confident Dyslexic, my current struggles with building a consistent daily routine, why I turned a to-do list into a fun game called To Do List Bingo, and how dyslexia can affect estimating life’s “needs and quantities.” If any of that resonates with you, you’ll want to keep reading.

Wrapping Up The Confident Dyslexic

I’m feeling really grateful for everyone who joined The Confident Dyslexic in October. It was an amazing experience, and seeing the breakthroughs people had truly warmed my heart. Confidence is such a game-changer when you’re living with dyslexia. Sometimes you don’t realise how low you are until you see how high you can climb with a bit of support.

We uncovered brilliant ways to make everyday tasks easier. Some of our group members learned that sharing stories is the best form of therapy. I just love watching how a community can lift each other up. If you’re interested in joining the next round, get on the waiting list and stay connected.

Rethinking Routines

I’ve hit a bit of a wall with my daily habits. They were working for a while, but now they feel stale, and I’ve noticed myself slipping. I get stuck with the same routines, yet my dyslexic mind craves something fresh and exciting.

It’s a constant reminder that we need to adapt. What worked a month ago might not work forever. Too much structure feels suffocating, but too little leaves me stressed. So I’m mixing it up: shorter bursts of tasks, more regular breaks, and a big focus on celebrating small wins rather than drowning in big goals.

Introducing To Do List Bingo

I’ve just released my new tool called To Do List Bingo. It started as an experiment when I realised I was writing lists that I never completed. It felt like a weight on my shoulders. So I decided to turn that weight into something fun.

Now, I’ve got a checklist turned into a bingo-style game. It gives me a little buzz when I check off each box. It might sound silly, but it’s surprisingly motivating. If you can relate to the pile of incomplete tasks, this could give you a new way to break out of that cycle.

Overcoming Estimation Struggles

Have you ever looked at a pack of items in a shop and thought, “This is definitely enough,” only to learn it was nowhere near? Dyslexia can mess with the ability to estimate how much we need, or how long something will take. I deal with this regularly—sometimes I buy too many groceries; other times, I run out of important stuff by Monday.

This episode unpacks that feeling of miscalculating and the frustration behind it. Here’s a quick snapshot of what I shared:

  • Strategies for reading labels and item descriptions more carefully
  • Tools that simplify measuring and counting
  • Ways to handle the shame of poor estimates so we don’t beat ourselves up

It’s not about being perfect. It’s about learning from each misstep and figuring out what works best for your dyslexic brain.

“I love my dyslexic brain and sometimes it needs to do an Update cast, where I share a bunch of stuff I’m thinking about and getting lost with.”

It’s freeing to give yourself space to talk about these struggles openly. When you realise others are in the same boat, it suddenly feels much lighter.

  • Feeling thankful: The Confident Dyslexic just wrapped up an awesome cohort.
  • Growing through change: Routines might need tweaking, and that’s totally fine.
  • New tools: To Do List Bingo is my playful spin on tackling daily tasks.
  • Estimation pitfalls: You’re not alone if you over or under-cater for your needs.
