2021 We Made It

2021 We Made It

Ready to dive into a new year? It can feel both exciting and overwhelming, especially after the wild ride we’ve all had. This episode offers a light-hearted check-in, reminding us that we’re heading into 2021 with a bit more hope—at least Australia isn’t burning this time.

In the podcast, I talk about my restless thoughts as I move into this new season. I share some personal challenges I’ll be tackling, along with why my brain feels like a racetrack. It’s raw, honest, and hopefully inspiring if you’re navigating your own hurdles.

Reflecting on a Better Start

A lot went sideways last year. It’s hard not to compare. But as I say in the episode, if we’re entering 2021 and nothing’s on fire, we’re already one step ahead.

“Australia has not caught on fire so that is a good start.”

That line might seem silly, yet it captures how the little things matter. When you’ve been through chaos, the small signs of progress are worth celebrating. It’s good to notice what’s going better, even if it’s the absence of a looming disaster.

I also share how my mind is already racing with ideas. Maybe you can relate—do you feel like your imagination kicked into overdrive the instant the calendar flipped? I talk about how I’m managing those thoughts so they don’t turn into stress.

Why My Brain Won’t Slow Down

Dyslexia and ADHD can mean getting a flood of ideas at once. I often catch myself jumping from task to task, as if every shiny project is yelling my name. This can be energising, but it’s also pretty draining.

How do I handle it?

  • Quick brain dumps on paper so I don’t lose track.
  • Short bursts of focus instead of forcing giant blocks of work.
  • Reminders that my energy is not limitless—I need breaks.

None of this is foolproof. But taking these steps helps me spend less time feeling guilty and more time doing things that matter.

The Obstacles and the Plan to Tackle Them

Walking into the new year, I’m already facing big challenges. Picture a to-do list that keeps growing as fast as I cross items off. Sound familiar? If you’re juggling multiple commitments, you’ll know the feeling.

But I’m choosing to share my obstacles instead of hiding them. Why? Because talking them through helps me realise solutions. It also keeps me accountable. If you’re looking for ways to stay on track, find someone you trust and share your goals. Even just saying them out loud can be powerful.

My main obstacles:

  • Getting clarity on what truly matters: I tend to chase every idea. Now, I’m learning to pause and ask, “Is this aligned with what I want?”
  • Consistency: From recording content to following up on leads, consistency is tough when you have lots of passions.
  • Self-care: Yes, that old chestnut. When you’re racing around chasing dreams, it’s easy to forget basics like sleep or meals.

Looking Ahead with Hope

Despite the messy bits, I’m optimistic about what the year holds. I believe we can all create a life that fits our unique brains, instead of forcing ourselves into a mould. It might not be perfect, but it’s ours.

In the weeks to come, I’ll share more about each challenge and how I’m finding my way through. If you’ve got your own upheavals, let’s figure out how we can turn them into opportunities—or at least handle them with a little more grace.

  • We’re starting 2021 on a better note than last year.
  • My racing mind can be both a gift and a hurdle.
  • Focusing on what matters brings peace of mind.
