Sometimes you need to step out of your everyday life to see what truly matters. I just returned from my honeymoon, and it gave me a chance to soak up fresh insights about dyslexia, relationships, and carving out mental space. I chatted about it all in this podcast episode, and I’ve pulled together the top highlights right here.
This episode touches on five key points that shaped me during this journey. You’ll hear about slowing down, overcoming doubts, and celebrating small wins. It’s honest, a bit raw, and hopefully something you can connect with. Read on for a quick snapshot, or tune in to the full episode above for the full story.
Getting away from the usual hustle helped me notice things I often overlook. There’s something about exploring new places and enjoying extra time with a loved one that lets you see life from a different angle. It reminded me how much energy I spend juggling day-to-day tasks.
When I was removed from my old routines, I saw how urgent my mind can feel. Yet as I relaxed, I realised I had more room to think. Without the typical deadline-driven environment, I stopped the racing thoughts (well, mostly). It was like giving my brain a mini-holiday of its own.
“One of the biggest realisations from the trip was how much I needed mental space to recharge.”
Being away meant I had to face some unexpected moments. It wasn’t always smooth sailing, and there were times I worried if I’d left too many tasks undone at home. But in those anxious moments, I learned that uncertainty can be a growth tool.
It pushed me out of my comfort zone, and I discovered I was more adaptive than I thought. Surprises that popped up became catalysts for learning. If things got hectic, I took a deep breath, reminded myself I’m resourceful, and let go of the need to have all the answers. It felt scary, but it was also freeing.
Now that I’m back, I’m trying to keep this new momentum going. Rather than jumping straight into old habits, I’m taking small steps that help me integrate these lessons into my everyday life. A few examples:
These simple changes remind me that life can be flexible. Dyslexia and ADHD push us to be creative in how we manage tasks and emotions. Embracing that creativity makes daily life feel a lot more doable.
